Hi! Welcome to my newbie help page. Its designed for levels 1-10 (and a few stuff for levels 11+). So if your anywhere in that level range you might find this page helpfull.

I. Getting Started

  1. Think of a good Name

Its good to make a good fantasy/medieval theme name. The Crypt is a Role Playing MUD (RP), so try to think of it this way: You're walking down to some market when suddenly your very good friend CoolGuy1022 drives up in his car? See, that doesn't sound right. So think of a believible name or maybe just a name (not a phrase or screen name).

Some tips on creating names is looking up cool words in a dictionary. You start this a couple of ways:

1) Think of a common word that kind of describes your character or character class (or maybe just a word). For this example ill use "Shadow." Now I look it up in my thesaurus and see a cool word that sounds like a name (or maybe it doesn't, I could be pro-nouncing it wrong), "Eidolon."

1)The other way is just to open up your dictionary/thesaurus and find the most interesting word available.

There are lots of other ways to create names. You can get your own name or a friend's and add some letters to it or just keep it the same. There are also a few pages out there that randomly create names for you.

2. Pick your character's race

Ok there are lots of races in the Crypt and all come with additional skills and abilities (except humans). The max stats for all races (i think) is 100. Each race has their goods and bads. For example, a demon is a great thief/vampire but they become extreamly weak at day. Or, Revenants are like super-races but they are weak against cold spells. For more help here you might want to type help race or help *specific race* to get some answers. The most important difference is that they all require different amounts of experience points to level.

3. Pick your character's class

Class is the next important thing on the list of creation. Choose a class that best suites you and what kind of character you want to be. The choices are as follows:

Warrior - exellent hack and slash, simple play and thinking. Good if you're new to MUDs.

Thief - good if you want to be sneaky and get those cool extra damage multiplier attacks (like backstab or circle). You get detect spells but you don't do the extra damage warriors do.

Cleric - Exellent defense spells at earlier levels and you can heal yourself too. All the attack spells but low hphysical damage. Their like Jedi's if you're familiar with Star Wars games.

Mage - Really nice offence spells and a few defense spells. They are the only ones capable of casting the most powerful spell in the game, Chain lightning. But are pretty weak on hp and do low damage.

Druid - Nice blend of offence and defence.Excellent element attacks. No transportation spells though.

Ranger - Good warrior with spells. My personal favorite but almost imposible to train all your stats up to max because of the spells and skills (that average about 4 trains per spell/skill). Well you can add all the skill and groups at creation (which I'll explain next) but you'll probably take days to level.

Vampire - basically a thief with enhanced damage and some cool charm ("Loooook into my eyes") spells. Also has transportation spells and a few defensive and offensive stuff. Can heal by drinking blood too.

4. Customize? or play?

Customize means add some extra skills/spells other than what you already have (which is probably a weapon skill pretaining to your class, a scrolls skill, a wands skill, a staves skill, and whatever skill(s) your race came with. I HIGHLY suggest customizing, just dont pick too many skills/spells ;-)

I usually choose the most important skills/spells first. My choices are (in order i guess) as follows:

  • parry
  • dodge
  • healing
  • protective

Of course if you don't have some of those spells/skills you can't pick them. The rest of the spells/skills are up to the player. I usually pick either dual wield or shield block next. However if you pick dual wield its probably a waste of time to get shield block (unless you are a mage). Its hard to pick spell groups because theres a chance you will only get one spell from the group and get it at a high level like 90. So in other words it could be a waste of time. You could create then type class *spell group* on all your possible spell groups (which can be seen by typing class by itself) and see the spells you will get from them and the level you will get them then delete and create again. Either way, its up to you. Just make sure you don't get so much that you begin to increase you're experience to level.. I like to stay under 40 creation points.

After you create you can always gain the other spells/skills at your guildmaster in New Thalos (get my speedwalks file for directions)

5. Alright! You're done! Time to Kick ass!

Ok the first thing you should do now is type get all pac. This will get all the items in your newbie pack. If you see <a press enter to continue> you might want to type scroll 40. Now type wear all. Now you're ready to go through newbie school. Read the signs and room descriptions level a few in the arena. If You need helpon specific skills/spells check you help file by typing help *subject*. For directions check out your "map of all crypt." That's the original copy of the one i have in my files section. For further help just ask on the ask channel or ooc or gossip (if you can role play the question).
